Key destinations & itinerary

• First part in Evansville, Indiana: staying with host families, attending local high school classes, university workshops, and city visits.
• Later part included Chicago, Illinois (Windy City) for further cultural & urban experiences.

What participants did & learned

• Immersion in American high-school life: attending classes, extracurriculars with host families.

• University-level workshops at the University of Evansville: giving insight into U.S. higher education.

• Cultural and social excursions: sightseeing, museum visits, learning about U.S. culture, visiting industries/factories.

• Exposure to new perspectives & world-views: the Romanian school described the program as „szemléletváltó” (a shift in mindset) because of the cultural and educational insights gained.

Outcomes & impact

• 26 Romanian students participated in the program.

• The experience aimed to build intercultural competence, broaden horizons, and strengthen academic and personal growth.

• Creation of new institutional links: between Tamási Áron Gimnázium, the University of Evansville and Reitz Memorial High School.

GIMI2US-2025 was a rich, immersive U.S. educational & cultural exchange for Transylvanian high-schoolers that combined high-school and university experiences, host-family living, and major U.S. destinations (Evansville & Chicago) over two weeks in April 2025, to foster global awareness and academic growth.
