• Language and American Culture Lesson 1: Welcome to the USA! Understanding the American Culture
– Introduction to the course and each other. Who am I, who are you?
Introduction game, diagnostics, and class goals
– Greetings/expressions for everyday communication: idioms, culture, and skills to adjust to the American environment
• City Highlights Tour: walk along the Ohio River with a visit to the Evansville Museum
• Lunch with city officials (Mayor’s office) and free time in downtown Evansville
• Visit the Evansville Museum of Arts, History and Science – learn about US history and Indiana’s/Evansville’s history – lead by Thomas Lonnberg
• Visit the LST Wartime Museum – lead by Dr. James MacLeod
• Visit Berry Plastics Global Headquarters – lead by Jason Connelly
Day 6-7 - weekend with families
Evansville
• Educational Info Session: Introduction to the American Educational System
– Understanding the American Culture – Embracing HIGH SCHOOL life in the US
• Language and American Culture Lesson 2: American Culture Through Social Media
– Exploring American music, movies, and social life; discussions about pop culture trends
• Language and American Culture Lesson 3: American Slang and Expressions
– have fun with idioms, slang, and other expressions, using formal vs informal language in casual conversations
– US diversity in culture and language
• Saturday evening: Family Entertainment Center

Day 8
Entire day at the University of Evansville
• Breakfast with host families
• Welcome – President Pietruszkiewicz and Dr. Rachel Carpenter - Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students
• Campus tour, including fitness/sports center and new residence hall
• Student Engagement Session: Understanding the American culture – Embracing COLLEGE LIFE in the United States
• Participate in a University class
• Lunch at UE’s Ridgeway University Center – The Eatery – International Students Club

• Getting Involved and Connected: Discovering student engagement opportunities
• Keys to Academic Success: Tapping into the Office of Student Success
• Exploring university majors and discovering innovative fields, industries, and careers
LUNCH and FREE TIME ON CAMPUS
University Activities:
– Sports and Entertainment: What’s the hype about college sports in the USA?
– Life Beyond the Classroom: The Extras
– Schroeder Family School of Business: Entrepreneurship in the United States
– Career Services: Career Readiness and Success – resumes, internships, networking, job search, etiquette in the workplace, interviews, professional communication
Afternoon:
• Attend UE basketball and/or baseball team practice
• Free time at the fitness center
Late afternoon: High School Track Competition – at Reitz Memorial High School
